Bot MD is a Y-Combinator backed startup founded in 2018 with the mission of empowering doctors. Their A.I. is able to integrate a wide range of hospital information systems to help doctors and nurses instantly search hospital information and automate patient engagement and monitoring by powering popular chat platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Viber. Since 2018, Bot MD has been used by over 20,000 doctors globally and has helped to impact over 15,000 patients within Southeast Asia.
FOUNDERS
DOROTHEA KOH, Co-Founder & CEO
Dorothea (“Dot”) Koh has over 15 years of healthcare industry experience across many large emerging countries including China and India where she helped innovate new healthcare business models . Prior to starting Bot MD, she began her career in the Singapore Economic Development Board in the Biomedical Sciences Cluster before joining Medtronic as Senior Manager, Business Development & Strategy. She then became the General Manager of Baxter for Indonesia, Singapore & Philippines overseeing country-wide operations in these markets.
Dot's extensive experiences living and working in large emerging countries cultivated her strong passion for improving the quality of healthcare in these markets, especially among underserved rural communities. Her personal goal in life is to impact 100 million patients by the age of 40. She graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Economics, and received her M.S. in Bioengineering from Stanford. She is also an alumni of the Stanford Byers Biodesign Innovation Program and currently has 10 patents published and pending.
YANCHUAN SIM, Co-Founder & CTO
Yanchuan (“YC”) Sim has over 15 years of experience in cutting-edge NLP, A.I. and Machine Learning research; co-authoring papers with over 300 citations in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences. Before starting Bot MD, YC was an NLP Research Scientist at the Singapore A*STAR’s Infocomms Institute of Research where he worked on NLP projects for companies such as Baidu. He currently leads the Bot MD engineering team and invented the proprietary Bot MD Natural Language Processing (NLP) chat engine and core technology platforms.
Under his leadership, the Bot MD’s NLP technology and product platforms have been used by over 20,000 healthcare professionals globally including 6,000 doctors and nurses in Singapore and have helped impact over 15,000 patient lives across Southeast Asia. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana Champa with a B.S. in Computer Science, and received his Ph.D in Language Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University. He has been coding since the age of 12.
